The 11th Nairobi International Book Fair is here! 24th – 28th Sept,2008

The 11th NIBF started yesterday at the Sarit Center’s Expo room with a March/Walk from the KNLS (Kenya National Library Services) Headquarters in Community to the Expo hall. It will run from 24th Sept – 28thSept, 2008. The Fair is organised by Kenya Publishers Association.

I was pleasantly surprised to see myself appearing on the front cover(yes am the one holding the mic- the photo was taking during last a poetry session in last year’s Fair.)and in another photo doing a demo to the Assistant Minister, Ministry of Education ……… but do I say.

Here are some of the activities to look out for at the Book Fair. I hope to see you there.

Wednesday 24th Sept 11-1pm
Venue: Expo Auditorium
Meet your Authors – by Oxford University Press (OUP)
I was able to attend this event that hosted such writers as Swale Mdoe, Leonard Mambo Mbotela and many others. There was an QnA session between the audience and the authors.
There were nice refreshments and some great give aways.

Thursday 25th Sept 12-2pm.
Sarit Centre – outside TBC during Nairobi Bookfair week
Organisers: Storymoja and the National Book Development Council of Kenya
How western aid hinders development, a discussion stimulated by the provocative anthology, Mercenaries, Missionaries and Misfits, edited by Rasna Warah
Panelists include intellectual heavyweights: Rasna Warah, Bantu Mwaura, Mshai Mwangola, Wambui Mwangi.

3pm – 5pm
Venue: Expo Auditorium
East African Educational Publishers will be holding an Author Galore as they unveil 70 new titles that include new storybooks for children readers as well as books in poetry and Kiswahili

26th Sept Whole day

You may get a copy of the event brochure here but I warn you, It is a PDF file that takes forever to load on a browser. They have no option for ‘Save As’ so eh…. click on the Adobe icon then get uaself a cup of coffee or some water. I am still waiting for it to load10mins down the line.
